this is what was discussed during out regular monthly general  membership meeting on the first monday of each month at 7pm at the  grace united methodist church...

SRCC 11/5/2007 general membership unofficial meeting notes

1. treasurer's report - (see item 9a)

2. greater SRCC meeting and sunnymeade apartments – sunnymeade, these  are the apts near oltorf and south congress behind the beall's. the  request is to change the zoning from MF-4 to MF-6 which would allow  for greater density and height. the proposal is for high priced  condos to replace the current affordable housing. the neighborhood  considers this an up-zoning and that it requires an amendment to the  neighborhood plan.

on other fronts... ANC (austin neighborhoods council) has filed an  amicus brief with PODER about the council's placement of the animal  shelter in an area that the neighborhood had proposed for low income  housing in the approved neighborhood plan.

MOTION: SRCC support for ANC amicus brief = passed

3. barton springs improvements – there is a revision being considered  for the SOS ordinance to deal mostly with older properties that are  grandfathered to create guidelines for redevelopment over the  aquifer. this would also apply to retrofitting existing sites to  control polluted runoff on sites that currently have zero controls in  place. an example of this is the albertson's at the "Y" which has  lots of untreated runoff. there are 200 total sites targeted by this  ordinance and 6 of them are 20+ acres with 1840 total acres in  question. for more information and details check www.sosalliance.org

MOTION: SRCC support of ordinance with the adoption of the  environmental board recommendations = passed

4. st ed's Sherwood oaks flood control/detention – st eds has  formally rejected the city's proposal to pay for the creation of a  detention pond under the new practice field along st Edwards drive so  the city is going to upgrade the size of the water pipe that runs  behind the houses where the flooding occurs and st eds will create  detention as needed as they develop their site. in theory the  enlarged pipe will resolve the flooding problem but will increase  erosion in stacey park due to a lack of detention of storm water. if  you think this plan is inadequate then you should contact st eds  directly to voice your opinion.

MOTION: allocate another $6k from neighborhood fund to further retain  the services of jeff kessel = passed

5. time insurance – Members are meeting with City Staff and  developer to correct the errors and omissions contained in the public  restrictive covenants and ordinances prior to 2nd and 3rd reading.

6. 2011 kenwood – owner wants to add an apartment in back of  property, seeking variance for sq/ft and setback with a hearing on  November 14th.

MOTION: SRCC opposes both variances = passed

7. 1307 newning – New two story duplex [8 br, 6 ba w/ attached  garages, uncovered wood decks and covered second story decks]  totaling 8018 s.f.

9. committee reports

a. historic district – raised $345 in calendar sales, $800 from  yard sale and $80 from donations and now has the $5k needed for the  initial survey to determine official boundaries and number of  contributing/non-contributing properties involved. Calendars are for  sale for $15 at Prima Dora, The Avenue Barber and Farm to Market on  Congress. Any donation of $10 or greater gets you a yard sign and  $150 or greater gets you and your personal or business website listed  on the website www.historictravisheights.org. If you would like to  volunteer for helping with the upcoming survey, let us know. All  donations are tax deductible.

b. traffic problems on woodward – neighbors were asked to  gather information about the traffic problems and proposed solutions  for presentation to the city council for presentation to the city's  transportation staff.

c. Austin pops would like to have a 41 piece orchestra play for  80 minutes in Stacey park on may 3rd at 2pm – some of the smaller  instruments would be amplified, like flutes, to balance with the  horns. there will be a possible donation request of $5 but otherwise  the event will be free and they are seeking our approval for the  event. we will vote on this at the next general meeting.

thanks. garret
